Around 1,000 years ago, Port Phillip Bay was a dry, grassy basin. Then some cataclysm, maybe an earthquake or storms, broke a sandbar and the basin disappeared beneath the waves. The sounds this drawing are based on are of a lesser storm recorded by a hydrophone submerged off Mordialloc Pier.

This recording was made on the lands of the Bunurong people of the Eastern Kulin nation. We pay respect to their elders past, present and future. Sovereignty was never ceded.
